Expenses and bills
Receipts: attach them, or let TallyPip read and match them
Keep every receipt with the expense, bill or bank transaction it belongs to: free. The Receipts add-on reads and matches them for you.
Attach a receipt yourself (free)
Every plan can keep a receipt with the expense, bill or bank transaction it belongs to: a photo or PDF, up to 8 MB, one per record.
- A new expense or bill: choose the file under Receipt (optional) before you press Save.
- An expense or bill you already have: open it and press Attach receipt.
- A bank or card transaction: in Bank transactions, open the transaction and press Attach receipt, or press the paperclip on a transaction you've already added.
To look at it, open the record and press the receipt's name (or the paperclip). Remove deletes the receipt; the expense, bill or transaction stays as it is.
The Receipts add-on: let TallyPip do it
The Receipts add-on is $5 a month (free with the Experts bookkeeping service; you can try it with 5 free receipts during your free trial). It does the work for you:
- 1Go to Receipts and upload photos or PDFs, several at once, or email them in.
- 2TallyPip reads the vendor, date and total (when automatic reading is on; otherwise type them in) and suggests a category.
- 3It finds the matching card or bank transaction and attaches the receipt. For cash, record it as an expense in one step.
Receipts are stored privately; only people in your business can open them. Where a photo was taken is removed before it's kept.
You can also email receipts in: see Email your receipts to TallyPip.
Bring attachments from your old app (free)
- 1In your old app, open its Attachments list, select them all and export them: you get one zip file.
- 2In TallyPip's Receipts, press Bring attachments from your old app and choose the zip (or the files themselves).
- 3It lists what comes over (photos and PDFs up to 8 MB) and what can't (other kinds of file, or bigger ones: keep those with your records). Press Bring over and keep the page open while they go up.
They're kept as they are under From your old app on the Receipts page, apart from your receipts waiting to be matched, and they aren't read automatically, so they don't need the Receipts add-on. Open one, add its date and total if you like, and attach it to the transaction, expense or bill it belongs to. Bringing the same zip over again doesn't keep anything twice.
